We've Got Answers
to all your questions.

(Well, not all of them. We can’t figure out #4 on that ECON final either.)

What is Alight?

It’s a high-quality apartment community designed especially with Purdue University students in mind. Alight features a variety of spacious, furnished apartments with hardwood-style floors, high-speed Wi-Fi and in-unit laundry, plus a full set of community features such as a 24-hour fitness center, indoor basketball court, swimming pool and more. All just minutes from Purdue, with its own bus directly to campus.

Is Alight part of Purdue University?

Alight is a privately owned and professionally managed community. Click here for more information about the management and ownership.

Can I live with friends, or can you match me with roommates?

You can select your roommate(s), or you can apply on your own and we can match you with other students. Applicants answer a short list of lifestyle questions to help in the matching process.

What are per-person contracts?

Instead of requiring all roommates to sign a joint lease, each person at Alight has their own individual contract, with one person per bedroom. This means you are only responsible for paying for yourself — not your roommates. Even if a roommate moves out or other bedrooms in your apartment are empty, you only pay the rate for your bedroom. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

What is included in the rate?

Each resident at Alight pays a flat rate that includes:

  • A full set of furniture
  • Wi-fi throughout the community, plus Ethernet in each bedroom
  • Flat-panel HDTV in living room
  • Trash removal
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • Community features — pool, fitness center, etc.
  • Free direct bus service to campus and downtown
What size are the apartments?

The spacious accommodations at Alight range from 1-bed studio to 4-bedroom floorplans.

Are private bathrooms available?

Yes, most of the floorplans at Alight feature private bedroom-bathroom suites. In the 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom floorplan, two residents share each bathroom.

Are the apartments furnished?

Yes, all apartments at Alight include a furniture package including a full-size bed, dresser, desk and chair in each bedroom, a leather-style or microsuede sofa and lounge chair and coffee table in each living room, plus a dining set. To see a sample of the furniture and other finishes, please visit our model apartments.

When do the contracts start and end?

The standard term is August 16, 2024 to July 25, 2025, with payments made in 12 equal installments. Limited alternate dates may be available; please inquire with our staff. Click here to see a sample Housing Agreement.

Is a co-signer or financial guaranty required?

Within 7 days after a Housing Agreement is signed, each resident is required to do one of two things: provide a qualifying guarantor (often a parent), or pre-pay the final 2 installments.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Residents can pay online 24 hours per day, by credit card or ACH electronic checking. Alight also offers automatic payment by either credit card or checking account — just fill out one page, one time and payments will be made automatically. Convenience fees apply for credit card and debit card payments.

Will my financial aid cover charges at Alight?

Your living costs at Alight can be covered by financial aid, just like on-campus housing. Any available financial aid funds, after university charges are satisfied, are released to the student for non-institutional expenses, such as off-campus housing. These funds can be used to pay charges at Alight. Normal payment deadlines will continue to apply.

Is Alight open to non-students?

Nearly all the residents at Alight are students at Purdue University and the per-person contracts are also designed with students in mind. Residents/families with children are welcome. There is no extra cost for minor children in the care of adult residents, other than regular charges for each bedroom space selected by the resident. A minor occupying a bedroom space rented by a parent, guardian or person with legal custody is not considered a breach of the Housing Agreement or a violation of the rules. Alight is an Equal Opportunity housing provider and welcomes applications from non-students. In order to match student roommates in shared apartments, we will request roommate consent for any non-student occupants.

What kind of safety and security are provided?

Alight has monitored fire sprinklers, electronic locks and deadbolts on each front door, plus individually locking bedroom doors. Community courtesy patrols are provided at select times, plus security cameras are located in certain areas. Management staff are also on-site 24×7 and can be reached by a 24-hour phone number.

What are the policies on pets, smoking and guests?

Alight is a pet-friendly community with required registration and fee, subject to limits on animals and breed. Alight is a no-smoking community in all indoor and adjacent areas. Guests are welcome at all times, subject to the consent of apartment-mates and security considerations. Overnight guests are welcome, with limits on the number of days and guests.

Can I park my vehicle at Alight?

Yes, Alight offers free surface parking for all residents. Covered, reserved spaces are also available for a small additional fee. Limited guest parking is also available at no charge.

What other transportation options will I have?

Alight offers dedicated CityBus (21A) service on weekdays when Purdue is in session, plus Saturday night and summer service. It’s just a 7 to 12 minute ride to campus. The bus arrives every 20 minutes from 7am through 7pm weekdays. Late-night bus service (8) continues to campus and Walmart until 1:30am on Thursday and Friday nights. On Saturday night, the bus runs 9pm to 1:30am.
